Dr. Cam Kirchner
Surgeon
As a veteran to this mission and at this location, what can the team expect to experience?
This will be my 11th trip to Kenya since 2000.
Situated at the base of a large mission station along the east escarpment of the Rift Valley, our living quarters have an unobstructed view of the vast valley below. Standing for a few minutes each morning upon the back lawn before ascending the hill for morning rounds, one has views to the north, west and south stretching 20-30 miles over long dormant volcanoes, busy communities and scores of heavy trucks travelling the highway connecting the northwest of Kenya and Uganda to Nairobi and Mombasa.
Why do you participate in these trips?
It has always been for me a work of faith, obeying an annual invitation to participate whenever I can, performing surgery on young children with whom I cannot communicate, interacting with parents with whom I also have limited communication, trusting the hospital ministerial staff with the direct work of evangelism, and leaving the results to the Lord.
To be part of His work here on earth is a privilege and an honor, and each of these trips has made me ever more content to simply obey His call.
