Kenya 2018 Team: Sarah VanderZanden

Sarah VanderZanden

Medical Assistant

What is your background and connection to the trip?

I live in Helvetia Oregon with my husband of 20 years and our 8 year old son and our German Shepherd, Ana. I enjoy traveling, the outdoors and spending time with my family.

I have worked for Dr. Michelle Vessely for 21 years now.  Four years ago, she invited me to join her on this mission in Kenya. My heart said “GO” and my family supported me. So, 2018 will be my 4th journey with CURE. Each Mission trip is different and very rewarding.

What will you be doing on the trip?

My role is to assist in anyway necessary. From organizing the medical supplies to helping getting the children ready for surgery to assisting in surgeries.

The families love is strong and when their child is handed to them with their lip or palate repaired the joy is contagious.

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy,
brotherly love, a tender heart and a humble mind.
